About us

We are Ingibjörg and Arnar, and we run ÖÖD Hekla Horizon as a family while raising our three girls here in South Iceland.

Both of us were born and raised in Iceland and have always felt connected to the land. In both our childhoods, family time meant exploring the Icelandic highlands, road tripping across the island, and spending evenings watching the northern lights dance in the sky. Today, we strive to give those same experiences to our three girls, who, despite their young ages, have already seen many corners of Iceland. These moments have shaped our understanding of what Iceland truly offers beyond the guidebooks. Through ÖÖD Hekla Horizon, we want to share that perspective with guests from around the world.

Before family life and ÖÖD Hekla Horizon, we both played basketball professionally. The sport took us across Europe and beyond, exposing us to different cultures and a wide range of hospitality experiences.

Living abroad gave us a new perspective on our home country. It made us realize how rare the space, silence, light, and raw nature of Iceland truly are. Those global experiences, combined with our Icelandic roots, shape how we run ÖÖD Hekla Horizon today. It is not simply about accommodation. It is about creating a stay that feels grounded in Iceland and intentional rather than generic, while meeting the expectations of well-traveled guests.

We are a local family running a place we care deeply about. Behind every detail are people who live the Icelandic life, who understand the seasons, the ever-changing weather, and the landscape.

For us, this is personal. It is about offering Iceland through local eyes, with space to slow down and experience the stillness that makes this place so unique.
